‘My Adventures with Superman’ Season 1, Episode 6 Review

by Frank Martin

My Adventures with Superman is very interesting when contrasted against the other current Superman show on the air, Superman & Lois. Obviously, they are very different on the surface as one’s live action and the other is animation. But the differences go deeper into a character level. It’s even more interesting when the audience imagines My Adventures with Superman as a kind of prequel to Superman & Lois, since they both take place at different times in their lives. The relationship between the characters plays a central role to both shows, and yet it’s compelling storytelling to see the differences in those bonds.

This episode picks up where the previous one left off: Clark (Jack Quaid) and Lois (Alice Lee) have to put their differences aside in order to search for the missing Jimmy (Ishmel Sahid). As it turns out, he was kidnapped by Cadmus, a duo of outcasts who used to work for Task Force X and are now in hiding. After Clark and Lois find Jimmy, they are all forced to confront the Task Force X robots that are after them.

While there was certainly action this episode, it wasn’t anything compared to action in episodes past. However, the characterization in this episode has been the most compelling yet. Contrary to Superman & Lois, which has the couple as a unified force of adults trying to raise their kids in a difficult world, Lois and Clark are pretty much kids themselves in this series. They are trying to figure out their lives and where they stand with each other while also confronting their own insecurities and anxieties. They aren’t the strong husband and wife that fans may be used to at this point. And it is great television to see them on a journey to become the power couple fans know and love.

My Adventures with Superman streams Fridays on Max.
